The Mosaic Meridian made its way to the United Arab Emirates, where it withstood temperatures of up to 53°C.
On a recent sales trip to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, both cities known not only for their high rise buildings but also for their high temperatures, the Mosaic team demonstrated the Meridian mobile mapping system’s durability for Capital Surveys.
This Abu Dhabi-based company boasts nearly 30 years of experience, offering a range of services including land surveys, 3D laser scanning, GIS mapping, and other geotechnical engineering services. They operate both in the UAE and abroad for a diverse client base. One of the key factors in their surveying business is finding tools that can withstand extreme heat, intense sunlight, and sand kicked up by the wind. They found exactly that in their new Meridian mobile mapping system.

Naved Ali, Mosaic’s Regional Director for MEA and APAC, and Ivan Hepp, our LiDAR Specialist and Product Manager, met up with the team at Capital Surveys in Abu Dhabi. The goal of the trip was to demonstrate the Meridian’s ease of use and conduct a sample data collection. Ivan put it well when he said,
“Something new is always being built in the United Arab Emirates. It is possibly the fastest-growing corner of the world, and the UAE needs camera and LiDAR systems that can keep up with that growth.”

The Meridian MMS’s features
Ivan, Naved, and the Capital Surveys team took the Meridian mobile mapping system out on Abu Dhabi’s skyscraper-lined boulevards to collect both high-resolution 13.5K panoramas and point clouds with 2-4 cm precision. In the UAE’s highly competitive market, every pixel and centimeter counts.
The Meridian system features the Mosaic X 360° mapping camera and a precision LiDAR/INS module. This all-in-one rugged package is ready to tackle real-world conditions in our harshest urban environments.

It is this combination of high-resolution imagery and high-precision LiDAR in a durable, IP-67 tested unit that sets the Meridian apart from other brands on the market. When asked about how the Meridian mobile mapping system stood up to the elements, Naved Ali had this to say:
“During the UAE’s harsh summers, when construction and surveying halt between the hours of 12 pm and 3 pm, our system kept working throughout the day. While other mobile mapping brands would hide in the shade, we hit the streets.”
We welcome Capital Surveys to the long list of satisfied Mosaic customers, and will share the outcomes of this data collection very soon. Make sure to sign up for our newsletter and follow us on LinkedIn to stay up-to-date on the latest in the geospatial industry!
