Mosaic’s Takeaways from Prague City Data Conference 2025

Smart city technology is changing the way citizens, governments, and businesses interact with one another.

Last week, members of the Mosaic team attended the 5th annual Prague City Data Conference (PCDC). As a geospatial imaging company based in Prague, it was an important opportunity to see the creative smart city technology our city utilizes to improve the infrastructure.

Experts from across Europe attended PCDC 2025 to showcase their real-world examples of urban data applications that create smart cities. With numerous stakeholders, including universities, citizens, companies, and governments, all interacting within the same landscape, it’s essential to be equipped with data to support urban development. Each city uses smart city technology for its own unique needs, such as real-time tram monitoring or predicting pedestrian traffic patterns.

Highlights for us included meeting other Prague-based experts in the industry. We also got to share about our Prague REALMAP open-source data project with other attendees.

Dr. Martina Mazzarello presented a case study on how high-quality data visualization helps translate more abstract geospatial data into tangible stories that anyone can understand.

PCDC presentations and workshops

We watched many valuable presentations and participated in several workshops at the Prague City Data conference. Our favorites were:

  • Dr. Martina Mazzarello’s work at the MIT Senseable City Lab. Her team uses LiDAR technology to map informal housing and business developments in Brazil. This project emphasized the need to involve the community’s consent when collecting data about their built environment and habits.
  • GoodData’s workshop on AI-powered city analytics, which used AI assistance to glean insights in natural language from huge urban databases.
  • The City in Motion bike tour, which was led by the Head of Transportation Infrastructure at the Prague Institute of Planning and Development, Václav Novotný. The tour unveiled the monitoring technology and planning decisions that work together to make inner-city transit safe and easy, especially for cyclists.

Did you know sensors at the entrance of the metro keep track of the number of passengers, all anonymously!

PCDC 2026

Will we see you at PCDC 2026? With this conference being right in our neighborhood, it is the perfect opportunity to connect with the local geospatial community.
